Running Together: The Frontrunners Way

There are a few things that make Frontrunners a unique running club. We run three times a week, offer a range of distances, have an iconic party for Pride, and most importantly, abide by our motto: No runner left behind. To keep our regular runs fun, safe, and welcoming for everyone, we follow a few simple guidelines.

Split points for different routes

In order to support a range of routes at every run, we need everyone’s help to find our groups along the way.

  • We have multiple split points where different distance groups separate. Please wait at each split point until an exec member has given directions. If there is no exec member at your split point, we ask all runners to make an effort to verify that all remaining runners have reached the split point. If you are at the front, expect to wait a few minutes for everyone to assemble.

  • In a large group, it can be hard for everyone to hear directions; please listen closely to whoever is giving them.

  • If you don’t know which way your distance group is going, please ask a fellow Frontie as soon as you get to the split point.

Running with your group

We want everyone to have a good time when running with us. We love when our members conquer a new distance for the first time or when first-timers become long-term members because our club is so welcoming. This can only happen if we are patient and attentive with each other.

  • We all share a responsibility to know who is running in our group. Keeping a head count at stops can be a good idea.

  • By default, we run at a conversational pace. Groups can agree to adjust the pace, but never in a way that leaves someone struggling or feeling unwelcome.

  • During stops, please give everyone in your group time to have a break.

  • If you notice that your group has split in two, please check in with the runners at the back. If there are only a handful of runners at the back, please encourage your group to slow down: nobody likes to chase the rest of the group alone.

  • If you ever need to keep going or run at a different pace, just let someone in your group know so we can all stay connected.

These guidelines are not any one person's job and nobody can be perfectly attentive all the time. What we ask from our members is to understand our culture and help maintain it whenever you can.

We love adding special workouts like speed or hill training when there’s interest: these happen outside of our regular runs. In short, our regular runs are for running together. Frontrunners is primarily for cultivating a community, which is why our regular runs need to stay accessible and welcoming to everyone who shows up.

We’re always open to ideas that can make these guidelines even better; feel free to share any suggestions with the exec team.
